Snoring Solutions: No More Snores

Everybody deserves a long, restful sleep.

It doesn’t matter what you do. Whether you had a long day answering calls, attending meetings, sitting through a boring class, answering exams; you need it.

Of course, there are some factors that may deprive you of a peaceful sleep, like rowdy neighbors, noisy cats, sound of passing cars and of course, and the most common of it all: snoring.

Did you know that roughly 45% of adults snore? That’s almost 1 in every 2 people! You might be snoring like hell, and yet you’re none the wiser.

What is snoring, exactly?

Well, snoring is when you unconsciously breathe through your mouth while sleeping that causes your soft palate, tongue, tonsils and uvula rub together, making vibrations. This vibration causes the loud, unpleasant sound that is snoring. Enlarged or swollen tonsils may cause snoring as well.

Because of the prevalence of snoring, sprays and other medicines are being sold in pharmacies in order to remedy this unpleasant (and sometimes, unavoidable) habit.

But there are natural and easy ways in order to prevent snoring. There are free and snoring solutions to reduce, or even totally eliminate snoring. Here are a few of these snoring solutions:

I. Change sleeping position.

Usually, when you sleep on your back, the gravity will cause the muscles in your oral cavity (tonsils, uvula, tongue) to settle down closer together, making it easier for them to rub together.

The obvious solution to this is by sleeping on your sides. But you can also try to raise the head of your bed a couple of inches higher. This will also help together with the pillows.

If you’ve done all the changes in your sleeping position, and yet you still snore like a wild animal, then you should try and figure out and change the other things that you do in your life.

II. Cut down/avoid alcohol and sedatives

Alcohol and other sedatives are said to stifle breathing. When there is difficulty in breathing through the nose, your body will find other ways to take in the appropriate amount of oxygen our body needs.

This will cause you to breathe through the mouth more, therefore causing snoring.

III. Lose weight

Although this is not always the case because some of the heavy snorers are thin, if you are overweight and you want to get rid of snoring, then try and lose weight. You don’t have to drop all those precious pounds, just a little of it will do.

The bulkiness of the neck of the person sometimes help increase the probability of that person to snore.

IV. Inhale steam or apply vapor rub on chest

If your nose is clogged, then you will need to breathe through your mouth a lot. Lessen the nasal congestion and ease your breathing before sleeping in order to avoid snoring.

Steam, when inhaled deeply, may relieve the traffic in our noses. By doing so, we cut back on the probability of snoring. The vapor rub may be rubbed anywhere, as long as we will be able to smell it effortlessly.

Less nasal congestion = less snoring.

V. Use nasal strips.

By now, you should know that the problem of snoring is poor breathing. Well, with the use of nasal strips, the entrance of our nasal cavity will be wider, therefore allowing more air to come in.

If our body gets enough of the much needed oxygen through your nose, then you don’t need to breathe through your mouth.

VI. Acupuncture.

Acupuncture is said to strengthen muscles. Since you want to avoid your muscles in your mouth rubbing together, the strength of your mouth muscles are crucial.

If there are strong enough to withstand drooping down, then you shouldn’t worry about snoring. Usually, it takes 12 acupuncture sessions, but depending on the situation, it may go more.

VII. Anti-snoring devices, mouthpieces, sprays.

Some mouthpieces are available to get rid of snoring problems. These mouthpieces are placed to prevent the rubbing together of the soft palate, tongue and tonsils.

Some sprays are also there to prevent the vibration as well.

Snoring can be avoided and get rid of as fast as it is acquired. You should just be aware of the things that you do and you will be able to go over snoring easily.
