For many years, doctors worldwide have dedicated themselves to find the perfect cure to snoring syndrome. As a result of those professional's research, there are a number of snoring treatments that are proven to be helpful in eradicating Obstructive Sleep Apnea (Snoring syndrome) or at least they reduce snoring to a minimum. This short article intends to show you the most common snoring treatments.
The first thing your doctor will evaluate is your weight. Obese people are more likely to suffer from snoring syndrome, mainly due to the excessively large amount of accumulated fat near the neck. This causes the chin to cause excessive pressure onto the throat while sleeping in a normal position. People who suffer from weight-related snoring will find a healthy diet and weight loss to be the most successful of all snoring treatments.
Another common cause of snoring syndrome is also a nasty habit. Smoking can cause the throat soft tissues to swell, which leads to less air coming into the lungs, resulting in apnea (pauses in the normal breathing function). The recommended treatment is no surprise: stop smoking. Quitting this habit also brings many other benefits to the body.
Alcohol consumption is also a cause of snoring. Body normal reflexes are retarded by alcohol, and if you have had a drink before going to bed, there is a very high chance you will be snoring. Of course, the more alcohol you drink, the more you risk yourself to suffer an apnea episode. Besides, an excess of alcohol on your blood makes you feel tired and sleepy, and can induce a very deep sleep, so you are more exposed to die while you sleep (this is because most people wake up when they really need to breathe, but alcohol’s effects keeps you sleeping no matter what). The recommended treatment is to avoid alcohol before going to bed, or stay awake until its effects have disappeared completely.
Other causes include sleeping position and defects on the soft palate or other mouth or nose tissues.
There are many snoring treatments recommended for snoring that relates to anatomic defects, including surgical and non-surgical procedures. Perhaps the more common of non-surgical snoring treatments is what professionals call "The pillar procedure." This modern technique consists on the injection of three small woven polyester implants directly into the soft palate tissue. This stiffens the palate, which is known to reduce snoring. However, keep in mind that this procedure does not make miracles: no matter how stiff your palate is, if you are obese, you smoke or you drink alcohol heavily before going to bed you will likely continue to snore.
Modern snoring treatments are very effective indeed. Most of them are non-invasive, safe ways to reduce that nasty sleeping apnea, but keep in mind that it is you who will ultimately need to make an effort to quit smoking, reduce alcohol consumption and lose weight; otherwise your physician can recommend a dozen snoring treatments and still do you no good at all.
